In this article, we will be covering the key reasons as to why contractors are moving away from using manual spreadsheets and are selecting Construct for Sage Accounts, the market-leading job costing software for small to medium contractors.
Continue reading to find out the specific reasons why three of our eighteen new customers in February selected Eque2’s purpose-built Sage software, specifically designed to streamline and overcome any accounting challenges faced by contractors in the industry.
NEJ Stevenson Ltd
NEJ Stevenson Ltd (NEJ) are bespoke designers specialising in architectural joinery for luxury interiors, earning the prestigious honour of being granted a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty the Queen in 2003 for their services.
NEJ were previously using Sage Job Costing alongside their Sage 50 Accounts to conduct their job costing, however, they recognised that they needed to seek a new solution as they were no longer receiving updates on their software. Whilst assessing the options on the market, NEJ found Eque2’s Construct for Sage appealing as it worked alongside their existing Sage 50 Accounts package and could offer additional construction industry-specific features that they had previously required manual spreadsheets.
NEJ were looking to move away from using Sage Job Costing due to a lack of updates in recent years on the software and they recognised that Eque2 would be able to easily facilitate the handover from their previous software. Using Eque2’s Construct for Sage job costing software, NEJ will be able to move away from using manual spreadsheets and manage their subcontractors, retentions and job variations whilst being able to analyse the costs incurred on projects to a deeper level of cost structure all within one streamlined solution for their accounts.
Opting for the additional timesheet app, NEJ will be able to collate their employee’s timesheets through any Android or Apple device in real-time, enabling the automatic transfer of timesheets over to Construct for Sage Accounts without the need to chase, collate or import timesheets manually.
Power Supply Projects Ltd
Power Supply Projects Ltd (PSP) are electrical engineering specialists for the rail and electricity supply industries in the UK. PSP were initially using Sage 50 Accounts, using a growing number of disparate, manually updated spreadsheets to track construction-specific activities. To maintain their spreadsheets required daily admin work and required records to be duplicated, consuming a significant amount of their staff’s time. Anticipating further business growth in the coming years, PSP were aware that their current time-consuming processes would prevent them from being able to track the real-time performance on their projects unless they took on additional staff in their accounts team or found a new job costing software to replace their manual spreadsheets.
With Construct for Sage working seamlessly with their Sage 50 Accounts package, PSP no longer have to re-enter their data between spreadsheets and can significantly reduce the workload per project in one streamlined process. PSP are now able to conduct instant Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR), Work In Progress (WIP) reports with Construct for Sage and Sage 50 Accounts working in conjunction with each other.
Workspace Scotland LLP
Workspace Scotland LLP (Workspace) provide fitout services across the UK, specialising in the healthcare and education sectors. Workspace previously used Sage Payroll and Sage 50 Accounts, using the generic projects features alongside manual spreadsheets to conduct their job costing. Workspace had to manage their client billing, subcontractors and retentions on spreadsheets which resulted in a high level of duplication when entering records. The disparity of the information on their manual spreadsheets made it difficult for them to conduct live reporting.
Using Construct for Sage as their job costing software, Workspace are now able to work with one version of the truth with their whole accounts team working in one commercial package built in to work seamlessly with their Sage 50 Accounts. Now that Workspace can conduct reports instantly, they will be able to track the costs incurred and the profitability on each project.
