2021: Why construction companies have invested in industry-specific software

December 17, 2021

At Eque2 we are pleased to have welcomed many new construction companies of all types and sizes over 2021 who have chosen to adopt our range of construction-specific solutions to ensure their business is best prepared for the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead in the industry.

The construction industry is of course still facing many challenges due to the increased cost and delay of materials, labour shortages and more remote working, yet we’ve seen an increase in companies looking ahead to adopt construction-specific software to help them keep a tighter control of their projects to protect margins and make sure their data is as accurate as possible to make those important decisions from. We’ve also made some exciting developments to our products to help companies combat these issues.

In November 2021 we released our new cloud based construction-specific job costing solution Construct Cloud meaning small to medium sized businesses can now access key project information from anywhere: on-site, in the office or working from home whilst fully integrating with Sage Business Cloud and Sage 50cloud. Construct Cloud takes away the need for additional servers or IT infrastructure and is ideal for those who continue to work remotely.

To support larger contractors our cloud-based ERP solution EVision continues to evolve to meet the needs of enterprise contractors. EVision is built within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and helps companies manage the entire construction and contracting lifecycle from initial bid, through to site final account. The solution provides your teams with role-based access to the information you need on any PC, laptop, or mobile device.

We have also continued to further develop our range of leading housebuilding, estimating and maintenance solutions, with mobility being a key theme to help customers collect and access key project information from site and automatically update their back-office systems and teams.

To learn more about how we are supporting our customers through the different phases of a contract, we recently wrote two articles below which you may find of interest:

New Customers

One of the most common reasons customers have continued to adopt Eque2 solutions over the past year is to replace their current manual spreadsheets, to help reduce risks or errors, increase the accuracy of information they use to manage and make decisions on their projects, and to streamline processes which otherwise waste valuable time.

Alto Construct LTD

Alto Construct is an independent civil engineering company, offering a collaborative and flexible approach to project delivery. Based in Leeds, they offer a wide array of experience and expertise to undertake a diverse range of civil engineering projects on a nationwide basis.

Before Eque2, Alto was heavily reliant on Excel for their job costing. However, their Excel spreadsheets were prone to error, and due to running weekly job costing, it was becoming more and more unreliable. Therefore, they reviewed the construction software market.

After discovering us, a demo was arranged. During the demo, Alto saw how Construct for Sage can generate live reports instantaneously, meaning they could run their weekly cost report accurately and with as much detail as needed. They also saw how the Invoice Recognition module would allow them to automatically scan invoices into the software and attach to the relevant transactions which would remove the need to store manual invoices and allow them to quickly and easily search for the relevant transaction within the software.

Alto went on to purchase Construct for Sage 50 alongside the Invoice Recognition module.

Cobalt Energy

Cobalt Energy is an independent engineering and operational services company operating in the renewable power sector. Based in Buxton, Derbyshire, the business specialises in consulting, engineering, delivery and operation of renewable energy technology and solutions.

In the past, Cobalt was reliant on spreadsheets. However, they were concerned with the number of individual spreadsheets they maintained on a daily basis as it often caused duplications, leading to discrepancies when creating reports. Due to the number of spreadsheets, creating live reports was next to impossible as it was extremely time-consuming.

After discovering Eque2, Cobalt saw how Eque2’s Construct for Sage 50 Cloud can generate real time reports instantly, meaning that Cobalt could monitor their jobs, plant management, and retentions all in one place. They also saw how they could automate their timesheets processes by allowing site managers and employees to enter their own timesheets through the Timesheet App which are then automatically sent to the back-office for approval.

Cobalt Energy purchased Construct for Sage 50, alongside the Timesheet, Purchase Order and the Delivery Notes mobile apps.
