How Smaller Contractors Are Reaping the Rewards of Cloud Job Costing Software, Built for Sage 50

May 1, 2019

Although the benefits of some new technology can be clear and tangible for smaller companies, sometimes the initial cost of implementing them is perceived to outweigh them, particularly for companies working to tight margins. Construction-specific job costing software, which can revolutionise a construction business by providing clearer visibility of profitability, protect margins and eliminate risk, can sometimes fall into that bracket for smaller contractors – until now.

Introducing Construct Express Cloud

Construct Express Cloud for Sage 50 from Eque2, is the first cloud-based job costing software solution of its kind, designed for the UK and Irish construction industry. The software is designed to help smaller contractors, typically up to £2m turnover, to manage industry-specific processes such as job costing, retentions, applications and variations in a dedicated system alongside Sage 50 Accounts.

For smaller contractors, the recently launched Construct Express Cloud now removes many of the barriers previously experienced. For example, with our Essentials package starting from just £79 per month, the traditional upfront investment is lessened, and being cloud-based, there is no need to purchase expensive hardware or consult IT companies to use it. Continue reading below to see why more smaller contractors are moving over to Construct Express Cloud than ever before.

SD Painting Contractors Ltd

SD Painting Contractors Ltd (SD Paintings) are the go-to company for new-build painting around Manchester, Liverpool and the throughout the Northwest. Prior to selecting Eque2, SD Paintings were using a number of spreadsheets to manage both their accounts and contract job costing processes. The business suffered from two main challenges; the first was not being able to track jobs accurately or in real-time, and the second was not being able to track and manage their retentions. After being demoed Construct Express Cloud for Sage 50, the business quickly recognised how time efficiencies, and cost savings could be made with very little upfront investment. SD Paintings have now selected and implemented Construct Express Cloud for their job costing requirements, alongside Sage Accounts, which they also recognised as a best of breed accounting solution. The business now looks to track and monitor all their projects using Construct Express, which will also allow for invoices to be put against cost codes and WIP reports to be pulled in seconds.

Kennaugh & Skinner Ltd

Kennaugh & Skinner Ltd (K&S) are one of the most respectable building contractors on the Isle of Man, the business specialises in both domestic and commercial work on all project sizes. Before selecting Eque2’s Construct Express Cloud offering, K&S also used manual spreadsheets for their entire job costing and accounting needs. The business has grown substantially in recent times and with over £1m in turnover, the director of the business was very aware that without a purpose-built job costing, or accounts package the business would face many challenges. Pre-empting these challenges, K&S have implemented Construct Express Cloud, and will use the system for managing subcontractors and CIS, applications, retentions and reporting purposes.

Industrial Insulation Ltd

Industrial Insulation are a specialist in thermal insulation, fire protection and trace heating. The business operates from within the UK and also carries out international projects. Industrial Insulation were users of Sage’s Job Costing and Sage Accounts package. With Sage no longer supporting its Job Costing module, the business began researching alternative job costing packages and initially looked at Eque2’s Construct Express and Construct for Sage 50 packages. After going through its requirements in detail, the business opted to implement Construct Express Cloud, which will allow it to manage its client billing, retentions and reporting all in one system through to final accounts. Factors that helped to make this decision included immediate use, no expensive hardware costs and the ability to use the solution at anytime, anywhere, on any device.
