Irish contractor selects Construct for Sage Job Costing Software from Eque2

February 19, 2020

Midland Heating and Plumbing Ltd (Midland Heating) provide the supply and installation of plumbing, heating and renewable energy products in and around County Meath. Midland Heating were originally using Sage 50 with numerous manual spreadsheets to handle their job costing. This led to Midland Heating being unable to quickly track their current job position on projects as it involved a slow and manual process that required extensive duplication of data between their spreadsheets.

In this article, we will be exploring the key reasons to uncover why Midland Heating moved away from spreadsheets and selected Construct alongside Sage Accounts as their job costing software.

Operating in the Republic of Ireland, Midland Heating required a job costing software that would help them to remain compliant with Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT) subcontractor tax legislation and that would allow them to register subcontractor contract ID’s, notify ROS of subcontractor payments and register any tax deductions efficiently. Failure to operate RCT procedures correctly can lead to significant financial penalties which can range up to 35% of the relevant payments made to subcontractors under a contract.

Upon receiving a live demonstration of the software, the Financial Director at Midland Heating was able to see how Construct for Sage holds all the key information required by ROS to verify subcontractors and payments including the tax reference number on the subcontractor record, the site name and identification number on the contract record and your ROS certificate file. Midland Heating were able to recognise that Construct for Sage would make registering subcontractors to the contract and obtaining the contract ID number direct from the ROS online system easier for them, without ever having to leave the familiar Sage interface.

Midland Heating were keen to begin tracking the job position on their projects, as their current process using Sage 50 with multiple spreadsheets made this a time-consuming process. Using Eque2’s Construct for Sage 50 Accounts Midland Heating are now able to conduct Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports to measure the expenditures against budgeted costs on each project and generate Work in Progress (WIP) reports to calculate the estimated cost of completing each project.
