The house building sector is thriving, according to figures from the National House Building Council (NHBC) and the Home Builders Federation (HBF).

NHBC reports that 42,470 new homes were registered in Q1 of this year – a 10 year high and a 17% year-on-year rise. Affordable housing has seen a significant growth in registrations, increasing by 40%, with NHBC Managing Director Neil Jefferson describing the news as ‘clearly encouraging’.

There’s also positive news elsewhere in the sector. The HBF Housing Pipeline survey reveals that planning permission was granted to nearly 300,000 homes last year, the highest total since the survey began in 2006.

Stewart Baseley, HBF chairman, said: ‘We welcome the fact that local authorities continue to increase the number of planning permissions being granted. The number of permissions being granted is a strong indicator of future housing supply and will feed through into completed new homes in the years to come.’

So if you’re a housebuilder, what can you do to make the most of this encouraging environment?

Making sure your business is agile enough to compete is key, and housebuilding software can improve your speed and efficiency from the initial land acquisition through to the sale and ongoing customer care.

Overall, this seems to be good news for the housing market – although reports, including the recent Housing White Paper, have highlighted the importance of a variety of site size and type to ensure housebuilding can continue to flourish in the UK.
